This classic Florida cracker beach house design features two bedrooms and two baths in approximately 1,500 square feet. Before modern air conditioning, nature was the primary source of cooling comfort; therefore, homes were surrounded with wide verandas that offered shade to the home’s windows and walls. Additionally, the homes were topped with clever cupolas to vent the home’s interior heat making these common sense design elements Florida’s original architectural statement. Since many of the early settlers to Florida were cattle ranchers and used the “crack” of their whips in order to round up their cattle, native Floridians were referred to as crackers; thus, their homes came to be known as the Cracker style. Following this vein, is an interpretation of the classic beach home surrounded by a four sided wraparound porch which offers outstanding outdoor space in which to entertain, relax and enjoy wonderful water views. Double French door access leads to the expansive living and dining space allowing for a gracious open concept design and optimal entertaining. The family friendly kitchen features a breakfast bar with arched opening, a separate pantry and storage, a large center island with sink and prep space along with an abundance of additional counter and cabinet space. The laundry nook is situated off the kitchen for ease and convenience.
Arched openings lead to the first bedroom which could function as a guest suite as well; the bedroom is spacious, contains ample closet space, has wonderful window views and there is a shared bath adjacent to the bedroom. The staircase leads to the second floor which fully occupies the master retreat; this is a great space with soaring heights affording wonderful views to the occupants. The bedroom is enormous, measuring in excess of 13’x25’ and offers considerable closet space along with a private sitting area. The master bath enjoys a large footprint, as well, and is highlighted by separate dual vanities, a separate shower with seating area, a luxurious tub, linen closet and a compartmentalized toilet.
